Monday, 16.--At six I began preaching in the street at Thirsk. The congregation was
exceedingly large. Just as I named my text, "What is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole
world and lose his own soul?" a man on horseback, who had stopped to see what was the
matter, changed color and trembled. Probably he might have resolved to save his soul had
not his drunken companion dragged him away.
